For the market launch of Huawei's new P30 Pro smartphone, we took product placement to a new level. Together with JvM and c/o, we developed a larger-than-life model of the P30 and placed the eye-catcher at various events in major German cities.
The highlight: the oversized smartphone model was not only visually identical to the original; it could also be operated in the same way!
Thanks to Huawei's development department, we were technically able to install a streaming server on a P30 Pro provided to us. This meant that the display content of the smartphone could be played back on the 4K touchscreen of the oversized replica - and in real time.
As we were also able to register the position of the finger on the XXL display with pinpoint accuracy using radar touch technology, it was possible for users to operate the smartphone directly using intuitive touch input.
The illusion of the oversized real smartphone was thus perfect and the curious audience had the chance to experience the most exciting feature of the P30 Pro up close and in oversize; the outstanding 50x zoom. This had also earned the smartphone the nickname "The Photo Miracle".
The phone's native photo app allowed users to experiment with the various zoom levels and, of course, there was also the option of downloading their favorite photo to their own smartphone via QR scan to share it with the world.
The so-called "Zoomable Ad" was used in several major German cities during the promotional phase of the P30 Pro, always with the best view of selected sights and always as a guaranteed eye-catcher for the curious public.
Selected snapshots of these events were presented on the specially created microsite erlebe.dasfotowunder.de, thus serving as a further touchpoint with the community.
