dancing with your digital Doppelgänger
With our AI Mirror, we developed a vibrant interactive installation that fuses dance with cutting-edge AI technology, transforming movements into stunning digital art in real time.
Utilizing the Kinect2 sensor, we capture every twist, turn, and leap of the dancing crowd. As they move, the dancer's motions feed into StreamDiffusion, a state-of-the-art AI image generator that creates mesmerizing visuals on the fly.
Our installation interprets and transforms these movements into colorful, abstract artworks projected on a large screen facing the performance area a.k.a. the dancefloor. Thanks to StreamDiffusion, our system responds instantly, generating dynamic visuals at an impressive speed of up to 50 frames per second.
To enhance the interactive nature of the experience, we provide users with a custom user interface that allows them to control the visual output. This UI enables real-time prompting and adjustment of various AI parameters, giving participants the power to shape the artistic direction of the generated imagery. By tweaking prompts, styles, and other AI-related settings, users can create a truly personalized visual journey that complements the dancers' movements.
As participants groove to the music, they become both performers and artists, painting ephemeral masterpieces with their bodies while fine-tuning the AI's creative output.
The result is an immersive environment where technology and creativity collide in a spectacular, customizable display of movement and color. The installation showcases the capabilites of AI in art and invite engagement in a fun and personal way, offering a unique experience that redefines how art can be created, controlled, and experienced in real time.
In 2025, we presented our Neuron Mirror at ETH Zürich as part of the University:Future Festival, introducing the "Explainer Screen" to reveal the neural network’s inner workings. This allowed visitors not only to engage with the AI-generated visuals, but also to gain insights into the often opaque processes behind them.
